Title: Inspired by Life's Experience: Storytelling in Glass
About the event: Internationally renowned master glass makers Ian and Vic Bamforth are brothers based at the Ruskin Glass Centre, Stourbridge in the Midlands. Both studied at the International Glass Centre, Brierley Hill, in 2001. Since then their work has featured in numerous exhibitions and museum collections, including the Corning Museum of Glass, New York, USA. They have received numerous awards. Ian specialises in producing hand blown glass pieces utilising both form and colour married with traditional techniques. His influences range from nature and the ocean's flora and fauna to the cosmos. Vic uses the highly demanding graal technique, combining hand-painting and glass blowing skills to create one-off internationally collected, sculptural works of art. Vic says his inspiration is “life's experience” – people he has met and known, places he has visited, the world around him, how he feels and what is in his thoughts. Truly, storytelling in glass.
